Detection:
The sensing line consists of two insulated conductors and two conductive polymer coated conductors.
A small DC voltage (5-9 volts) is applied to the sense line, limiting current flow through an internal resistor, which is about 75 μA. The actual amount of current is measured by measuring the voltage drop (V1) across an internal reference resistor.
In the event of an overflow, the current will seek the path of least resistance and flow throughout the leak area. This causes an increase in current through the reference resistor to initiate a water leak alarm.

Continuity (broken line) detection
If the cable is damaged, no current will flow in the loop. The voltage across the reference resistor drops to zero and the internal circuitry recognizes this as a continuity fault.

Positioning:
Leakage has been detected, the circuit in the module is automatically configured to locate mode.
Leakage is measured by measuring the voltage drop along the line of sight between the leak and the module. The voltage drop is linear proportional to the leak location. Different scale factors for feet, meters or areas.


Water leak detection by monitoring the voltage across the internal reference resistor to achieve.


The leak location is determined by the voltage drop across the cable from the module to the water leak measurement.
